I had a love hate relationship with this book. I started off really liking it and toward the middle I wasn’t as enamoured. I was happy with the ending though and overall I did end up liking it. It’s a romcom based around contestants vying to win a cooking show. There was an eclectic group trying to be the best baker. Beware - there is a lot of talk about yummy baked creations. I really enjoyed the humour and snappy dialogue between the characters and the different personaliti
I really enjoyed this book and now I want to go and read the rest of the series - although this book can definitely be read as a standalone. Emma wakes up from a coma to find out how much the world has moved on without her. Her boyfriend and BFF are now a couple and she has lost her job. I really enjoyed the writing style and the characters. I also liked Emma’s strength in getting her life back together. This is a perfect book for summer reading. Thank you Getred PR for my fr
AMAZING BOOK ALERT!! I have loved Amy Mason Doan’s previous books and Lady Sunshine was one of my most anticipated books of the year. I LOVED this book!! I actually went into this one with no idea what it was about. All I knew was that it was a book of Amy’s and that meant it was an auto read for me. The story takes place over two summers twenty years apart. Both time periods were exceptionally written and the characters were complex and engaging. I was hooked from the first
Another wonderful book by this author. Libby’s life seems to be falling apart in so many ways. She can’t shake her despondency and her worry over her family. Hoping to move past all her anxiety and uncertainty she plans a family trip back to Puerto Rico where she first fell in love with her husband. The trip definitely doesn’t go as planned. There is one disaster after another. Through it all Libby learns what she needs to do to get her life back on track. I loved the descrip
This was an interesting and enchanting story set in the Catskills of NY. Two couples built a family resort in the 1960’s that sounds like it would have been amazing for the time period. Slowly the hotel needed more maintenance and refurbishing as the clientele began to seek out more modern places to vacation. Modernization was hard to do with the dwindling money coming in from too few guests. The original owners with their children and now also grandchildren meet to decide th
I first heard of this cult a few years ago when Catherine Oxenberg, the actress, went public with trying to get her daughter out. I was horrified with the details she was laying out about what went on in Keith Raniere’s world. It was even more awful to read about it, but also fascinating. The author has done a lot of research into what made this cult successful. It was amazing to see how the girls were groomed before they fully committed. Women were the ones doing the biding
This is a fun romance with quirky characters. The main characters were beautifully written. And if you love ghosts there is one here too. I’m not usually a fan of stories with ghosts etc but this was so well done it won me over. This was my first book by this author and it won’t be my last.
I love Karen Swan’s books. With every one of them you know you will be immersed in the story with her wonderful and descriptive writing in a great setting. This book takes place in Costa Rica and you feel you are right there with the characters. Tara, a doctor, goes to Costa Rica to attend a family event and then finds herself in the jungle to help a sick boy. Much to Tara’s chagrin she also has to deal with a man from her past. I loved the detailed writing and the great char
I love memoirs but I find them so hard to review. This memoir by Jacqui Burnett is raw and honest. Growing up as a privileged white girl in South Africa during Apartheid Jacqui’s childhood was far from perfect. Her father was so emotionally abusive it was horrific. Her mother, always under the control of her husband, was also emotionally abusive to a lesser degree but also failed her daughter in so many ways. Jacqui has a business degree and went on to work at her husband’s b
Another amazing book from Mary Kubica! A woman goes missing while out for a run and the husband becomes the prime suspect. Things get more complicated when a mother and her daughter vanish. Are these two events related? This is a fast paced thriller with great atmospheric writing. From the first chapter I was hooked with this one. The ending is so well done! I don’t want to give too much away because it’s a thriller. You definitely need to pick this one up!
