Review of The Grays of Truth
This is a fascinating historical mystery novel based on true events. Set in Baltimore Reconstruction era this story is filled with multiple murders, financial inconsistencies and scandals. After Lady Jane’s husband dies after visiting his brother’s home and more murders occur Jane starts to realize there are too many people falling ill or dying in the esteemed Wharton household. As she conveys her suspicions her reliability is complicated by her previous unstable mental health. It is interesting to see how the medical and legal fields have progressed since this time period and what they were working with then. I have read the author’s previous two books and as with them I am amazed at the amount of research that went into writing these detailed novels. Fact and fiction have been woven together seamlessly. I definitely recommend this book to anyone that enjoys historical fiction.
