Review of The World Played Chess

This is the first book I have read from the prolific and well loved author Robert Dugoni. After reading this book I know I definitely need to read more of his work. This is an emotional and powerful story. It is told in three timelines, 1967, 1979, and 2015. Vincent is the central figure. He meets two Viet Nam war vets at his summer job right after high school. As he learns more about what they endured and lived through in Viet Nam, as young men, he is captivated and awed by the differences in their lives. Vincent later receives a journal from one of the men that further details his experiences in Viet Nam. In 2015 Vincent’s son is now heading to college so he is brought back to his own summer before college. Make sure to read the author’s notes in the back of the book for more information as to how the story was formed. I found this book very impactful.
