This is both a fun and poignant story. Colby and Rip become guardians of two small children when Rip’s sister and Colby’s best friend dies in an accident. Of course Rip and Colby have totally opposite personalities and a bit of a negative backstory so they seem to clash over everything. The kids are adorable and it was heartwarming to see Rip and Colby learn how to work together to do what is in the best interests of the children. Of course there is a love story and it was gr
Another great book from Jennifer Hillier. This was one of my most anticipated books of the year and it didn’t disappoint. This book starts off strong and keeps the suspense throughout. I was definitely engaged to see how this one would end. A lot has been said about this book already and since it is a thriller I don’t want to say much about the plot. If you want an addictive and immersive book pick this one up!
For some reason this book was a bit of a miss for for me. I’m not sure exactly what it was but I just didn’t connect with the characters. I liked the two main characters on their own but I didn’t really feel their connection with each other. I appreciated this was a mixed race relationship which I think we should see more often and I was sympathetic to their individual mental illness issues which I think was well written but something just didn’t work for me. I will definitel
This is a coming of age novel set in Georgia. The story is told by twelve year old Kay. She lives in the marsh with her dysfunctional and strange family. Kay is running through the marsh one day when she encounters another child close to her age. Kay is eager to strike up a friendship with Andy once she realizes how close they live to each other but Kay’s parents immediately tell her to have nothing to do with him. It is so heartbreaking to see Kay living like she does when s
This is an engaging domestic suspense novel. The recent gossip in the perfect neighborhood has been about the rock star and his wife that live there. The gossip quickly turns and cracks start to emerge among the neighbors when a little boy goes missing. It becomes even more alarming when another child vanishes. This is an interesting book and there is a great twist at the end.
This is a cute lighthearted story. Lucy is excited about her 30th birthday and has a big party planned for the evening. When she wakes up on the day of her birthday she realizes she can’t tell a lie. Because of this she begins to become more aware of what she really wants her life to look like. She decides she is over living with many of the double standards women are being expected to abide by. Gone are the uncomfortable clothes, immaculate makeup and shoes that are a nightm
I read and enjoyed this author’s Kate Waters Series and I liked each book more than the last. I was interested in this new book but I don’t think I liked it quite as much as the series. I did find that there were a lot of characters and it was confusing at times. There does seem to be a lot going on in the beginning of the book and luckily things get clearer as the story progresses. Although this wasn’t my favourite of this author’s I still enjoyed it and will read more from
I knew nothing about this book before reading it and it was nothing like I falsely presumed from the title and cover. There was a ‘work wife’ but her duties astounded me. The story is told by three POV’s and it takes place over a one day period. Zanne is the work wife to Ted, a powerful movie executive. Ted and Holly run their home and business with an amazing amount of staff. It was mind boggling to see their expectations of their staff and how devoted the staff was in accep
This is a family saga story. The setting is beautiful and there is some great info and history about the Indigenous people of Australia. This book also has positive LGBTQ representation. There are quite a few characters all undergoing their own soul searching. I did find the book a bit long but overall an interesting read.
This was definitely an intriguing domestic suspense novel. I was engaged in this story from the beginning. The main focal point of the book is that Emily, a high school senior, goes missing after a party. The story also focuses on three women. One is Emily’s mother and two other women who worry about any connection they or any family members might have to her disappearance. They try to piece together the night Emily vanished and what preceded it. Overall this was an interesti
