This is the third book in a series but can be read as a standalone. This was a heartwarming story. Ryan is in Magnolia trying to rest and heal after being stabbed while working as a doctor in a big city ER. Meredith is living in her hometown of Magnolia and is running an animal rescue centre. Neither of them are interested in a relationship but are still drawn to each other. Can they make a relationship work and will Ryan decide to trade in the big city for a small town? I lo
This was a fun one. Reena needs a boyfriend to make her parents happy. They want her to marry a nice Muslim boy. They even have her father’s employee move across the hall from her as a potential husband. She isn’t interested in marrying him but they do become friends. Reena and Nadim then fake being a couple so she can enter a couples cooking contest. Warning - this book will make you want bread. This is a fun heartwarming book with great characters and I loved it.
Larissa returns to her hometown after her aunt dies so she can prepare her house for sale. As she passes a wedding dress store she goes in on a whim and buys a wedding dress. The big problem is that she doesn’t have a groom since she recently broke up with her boyfriend. As it is a small town word gets out that Larissa is getting married. She keeps the lies and the charade going. Meanwhile she is also having problems with her relationship with her parents. Her mother has deme
I loved this book! I was in awe of Anna as she set out to sail to the Caribbean after her boyfriend’s death. Anna’s story was so compelling and her emotions were so real. Her strength and grief were both so well written. I loved the dialogue throughout the book. I am always impressed when the dialogue is great between the two main characters and it was also strong with the secondary characters. Keane was amazing and perfect for Anna. I liked the slow progression of their rela
This is a heartbreaking true crime book. The book details the murders of gay men in 80s and 90s in NYC when the AIDS epidemic and homophobia were rampant. The deaths of these men were never given the attention they should have and as a result the Last Call Killer got away with his crimes for many years. This is a well researched and disturbing book. It was so powerful to learn of the gay community and their fears. Thank you Celadon books for my free review copy!
This is an amazing and poignant book. I love books set in NYC and throw in cute dogs and I think it should be a good story. This memoir was even more than I hoped for. Martha runs into an acquaintance as she walks her dog Minnie and as they chat he asks if she would be interested in taking his friend’s dog as Martha has the same breed of dog. The friend, Carol, is dying of cancer and she needs someone to take Harry for her. Carol and Martha connect and Martha debates taking H
Another amazing book by this author. Every time I finish one of Sonja Yoerg’s books I say I liked it more than the last one and I’ve decided I just love them all but this one nearly broke me. It’s 1980 and the large Vergennes family lives on the Chesapeake Bay. When I say they have a large family I mean nine children! Since they live out of town and have no money for outside activities the children play together on an old ship abandoned in their yard. This is such an elaborat
In writing this historical fiction novel the author has chosen interesting characters and an unique point in time. Focusing on Virginia’s aristocracy in 1819, we get to meet men where their honour is everything. We begin with a duel between the two men. These men are brothers-in-law and descendants of founding father George Mason. This is a beautifully written well researched book and I enjoyed the time period. Historical fiction fans will definitely enjoy this one.
This romcom didn’t quite work for me. I liked the premise of the book. Addie has her first book published and her life completely changes. She is responsible for her brother Owen who has Down’s Syndrome. Owen is a great character and my favourite in the book. I didn’t really see the romantic connection between Addie and her publicist. Some of the descriptions and Addie’s thoughts get a bit repetitive. There are definitely better romcoms out there!
This is a great well written memoir. I really like memoirs and I admired how honest the author was. Melissa marries the love of her life and lives a charmed life with her husband and young daughter. Then her husband Joel is diagnosed with MS. They still make the most of their lives continuing to travel and do as many things as they can while Joel’s mobility is still good. As the MS progresses Joel starts to make plans regarding his medical care going forward. Then Joel develo
